I relinquished the gavel of President over to our next group of leaders of Pine Needle Garden Club. I have so enjoyed the past  two years as President, but most importantly the 13 years of membership in the group. These women have shaped many facets of my life in ways some of them will never know. My Executive committee made me look good–a group of dedicated women, Gina, Winnie, Catherine, Betty, Carol, Doris and Mary.

Beginning with the invitation to visit the Club, then join the membership. Years of developing friendships and strong ties to these ladies not only through monthly meetings, but garden festivals, flower shows, holiday functions, and field trips. And separate whine and wine garden talks!

These ladies teach me about leadership, laughter, order, dedication and patience. Our final meeting yesterday took  place  at one of our senior member’s home in Evans. We shared recipes, swapped  plants and  passed the gavel on  to our next group of leaders..

I  look forward to many more exciting times as a member of Pine Needle.

see you.

Mothers Day Roses 2013

May 12, 2013

I’ll have to admit, today was a bit difficult. Yes, it’s Mother’s Day and everything is supposed to be picture perfect. Most of you know my mother lives with us now after a bout of acute renal failure last summer. Her memory is not on target. She has difficulty making decisions. You’d never know this [...]

Garden Rx

April 17, 2013

We took a couple of trees out behind the shed and voila- -space and sun! Perfect opportunity for a “Back 40″.   The side yard is full of annuals, perennials and shrubbery, so not too much room for crops. It may have been premature, but I planted this garden on Good Friday. The picture below [...]

Q and A Tuesday

April 16, 2013

Spring has definitely sprung in Augusta and those sticky little aphids are munching on my coral honeysuckle vine that covers the garden arbor.  First I noticed the coral blooms were distorted then on inspection, clumps of fleshy aphids macking down on one of my favorite vines! I am out video taping the vine for you, [...]

Resort Life

April 12, 2013

I am sitting at the pool trying to see my iPad , but I am distracted by a familiar reflection. Then I look up at the 3 generations of women across the pool. The eldest is probably in  her late 70′s, then her daughter in her early 50′s, and the youngest looks to be in [...]

Masters Week Reality 2013

April 6, 2013

“Trying to get out of here” is probably something most people are saying today about leaving their homes for Masters Week. I am no exception. Not renting the house this year takes a load off, but I just realized that this year’s pressure is greater than any year. This year I have my mother and [...]
